Today, professional photographer and host of “Sprouting Photographer” podcast, Bryan Caporicci is on the show for an interesting conversation about the “busy” mindset that many photographers have and how by changing our mindset we can be less busy, build better businesses and get our lives back.  It’s important to note that by “less busy” we don’t mean taking on fewer clients or decreasing revenue.  We’re talking about the psychological state of feeling overwhelmed and stressed out by work.

As Bryan points out, “Living the busy mindset and being in this space of constantly feeling overworked and stressed out is not a way to live.  It’s not a way to sustain.  You can’t do it for the long term and it’s not why you got into this business.”

Busy does not mean productive

Parkinson’s Law states that work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.

Think about how much you get done in the two days before going on vacation.  Most of us will have to admit that we do more in those two days than in the prior two weeks.

The first step in changing your mindset about being busy is to have a heart to heart with yourself about the way you spend your time and begin to set hard deadlines.  If you give yourself a day to finish a wedding, you will take a day.  If you give yourself 2 hours, you will get it done in two hours.

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel

Many photographers are one person shows.  We’re our own marketing, accounting, graphic design, photography, secretarial…  Fortunately, there are tools available that will help you take a step back and put your business on autopilot.

Bryan and his team created Sprout Studio to help photographers get back to what they love doing.  Photography.  Sprout Studio is unique because it puts every tool you need to manage and grow your photography business in one place.  Manage inquiries, handle correspondence, book clients, collect payments, share galleries, take print orders, deliver digital files, collect feedback on album designs, ensure customer follow-up, and much more, all in one place.
