In the three years that Tara Giles has been in business she’s made a significant investment in business related education and it’s paid off. When she started, she photographed a little bit of everything. By shifting her focus to seniors and creating a partnership with a local boutique and her senior models, she was able to build a strong business that specializes in creating unique experiences and beautiful portraits for high school seniors and their families.

Senior Reps

When Tara decided to focus on seniors she knew that she wanted to launch a senior rep program. Not sure where to start, she modeled the program after the one she had been a part of nearly 20 years ago. After spending a lot of time and money designing and printing beautiful rep cards, Tara quickly realized that the girls weren’t passing them out. She kept hearing about StickyAlbums and after hearing Cyrissa from Immerse Photography talk about how she used them her rep program, Tara signed up. Her reps loved the app and began sharing them all over social media.

Things went pretty well the first year but Tara wanted to do more. She envisioned a senior rep program that went beyond referrals and print credits, she wanted to create a unique experience for her reps. Something that would be fun for them and keep the buzz going about her business throughout the year. She wasn’t sure how she was going to do this but she knew that whatever she did, it needed to make her stand out from the other photographers in the area.

Partnering with a local business

Tara thought that doing styled sessions throughout the year that felt like a modeling experience would be a lot of fun. To make it extra special, she partnered with Ashley’s Room, a local boutique that caters to teenage girls. The girls wear clothing from the shop for their sessions and get a StickyAlbum with the images. Additionally, the boutique gets an app with their branding and contact information that is also linked to their social media and website. All of the apps have a coupon for their next purchase. In just four months, the Ashley’s Room app has received 652 views and 260 unique downloads. This kind of exposure is so valuable for a small business and it’s also been great for Tara’s photography business. Prospective clients call looking for the app!
